The KNOW4DRR project explores the complex interactions between knowledge, decision-making and implementation, in order to understand what hinders the use of knowledge for making appropriate decisions related to risk mitigation and adaptation. The project aims at identifying potential bridges among experts and professionals who have different disciplinary backgrounds and different roles. Through workshops, seminars, and living labs, tools are generated to enhance societal capacity to learn from past successes and mistakes and to update its knowledge on natural extremes and climate change potential consequences. A further aim of the project is to construct an integrated knowledge management framework for disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation, which may be considered as a comprehensive reference/guideline for establishing, reinforcing, or revising current prevention, mitigation and adaptation strategies.

The project consists of an interdisciplinary team stemming from ten partner institutions and includes geoscientists, urban planners, anthropologists, ICT-specialists, as well as journalists. The KNOW-4-DRR project is financed by the European Union within the 7th Framework Programme. For further information please refer to http://www.know4drr.polimi.it/.
