    A new report by the Munich Climate Insurance Initiative (MCII) and published by UNU-EHS, takes a close look at climate risk insurance and the role it can play in reducing social vulnerability and poverty in affected populations.  The report provides decision makers with a useful handbook on risk management and risk transfer (with a focus on insurance) in the Caribbean.

    The report was developed in the context of the Climate Risk Adaptation and Insurance in the Caribbean project which addresses climate change, adaptation and vulnerability by promoting climate risk insurance as an instrument to manage and transfer risk in the Caribbean. The overarching goals of the project are:

    • To support the development of weather-related risk management solutions, including insurance;
    • To support the development of public-private insurance solutions so that financial support is extended to the most vulnerable groups;
    • To demonstrate the value of a regional risk pooling instrument in climate change adaptation and risk management.
