UNU Scientist Dr. Cosmin Corendea has recently been appointed Lecturer (Lehrbeauftragter) by the University of Bonn. In his capacity as Lehrbeauftragter, Dr. Corendea will be teaching a course on “Climate Change and International Law” during the Summer Semester of the School of Law, University of Bonn. This course is jointly organized by UNU-EHS and University of Bonn Institute of International Law, and draws on research expertise from both organizations on this topic.
This 12 week course introduces participants to the current and emerging debates in the linkages between climate change and international law from a trans-disciplinary perspective. Various dimensions of these interconnections, such as water security, food security, climate induced migration, human rights approaches, etc. will be explored. Finally, participants will be invited to discuss and debate the future directions of these linkages.
Dr. Corendea holds the Doctor of Juridical Science (S.J.D.) distinction in International Legal Studies from Golden Gate University School of Law in San Francisco and he received his LL.M. in Intercultural Human Rights with honours from Saint Thomas University Law School in Miami. Dr. Corendea’s focuses on the legal, cultural and socio-economic dimensions of social vulnerability and resilience and also the comparative frameworks of social perception of social vulnerabilities and resilience.
