Dr. Michael Hagenlocher has been appointed as a Lead Author for the EU report “Science for Disaster Risk Management: acting today, protecting tomorrow”.
This report is the second in the “Science for Disaster Risk Management” flagship series, supported by the Disaster Risk Management Knowledge Centre (DRMKC). The report will build upon the science-policy interface of the first in the series, “Knowing better and losing less” published in May 2017, and will focus on the impacts of disasters on different sectors.
Dr. Hagenlocher will work with a small team of experts on Chapter 2.1 Risk Assessment, focusing on the key elements of risk assessment for different hazards at different spatial (local to global) and temporal (past trends, current hotspots, future scenarios) scales.
“Acting today, protecting tomorrow” focuses on the impacts and assets at risks in the Disaster Risk Management cycle, and will be based on case studies and current science. It is directed at the needs of policy-makers, practitioners and citizens. The “Science for Disaster Risk Management” series seeks to contribute to the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The report will be launched in 2021.
