UNU-EHS at Climate Law and Governance Initiative at COP22

    UNU-EHS will be hosting an expert’s roundtable with the Climate Law and Governance Initiative at COP22 on 11 November 2016 in Marrakesh, Morrocco. Senior UNU-EHS Academic Officer Dr. Cosmin Corendea will be representing UNU-EHS at the event and will be further participating in a series of events starting from 12 November 2016 to highlight a legal approach to climate change, migration and human rights.

    The experts roundtable “Human Rights, Climate Justice and the Law on Migration in the context of Climate Change” focuses on how to respect the human rights of those seeking refuge, in light of recent failures to offer protection to those most in need, worldwide? How can a rights-based approach be highlighted in Paris Agreement implementation? How can rights and hybrid approaches apply to climate risks and migration/refugee scenarios at local, national and international level?

    The event will be chaired by Dr. Oonagh Fitzgerald (ILRP Director, CIGI) & TBC (UNDP) and speakers include Dr. Cosmin Corendea (Academic Officer/Legal Expert, United Nations University Institute for Environment and Human Security (UNU-EHS), Prof. Benoit Mayer (Chinese University of Hong Kong Faculty of Law / CISDL), Maître Katherine Lofts (Programme Manager, CISDL), Dr. Sebastién Duyck (Senior Attorney, CIEL) and Dr. Khalid Ramli (Expert, Morocco National Human Rights Council).
